Celebrating Dr. Gawsia Wahidunnessa Chowdhury’s distinguished scholar recognition

Congratulations to Dr. Gawsia Wahidunnessa Chowdhury, an alumna of the OWSD–Elsevier Foundation Awards, on receiving the University of Dhaka’s Distinguished Scholar Recognition Award 2026.

The award honours her exemplary contribution to scholarly excellence through high-quality research, with recognition reserved for teachers and researchers who have achieved 2,000 or more citations on their Google Scholar profiles. Dr. Chowdhury was among 62 Dhaka University academics celebrated for their research contributions and for strengthening the university’s international visibility.

A Professor in the Department of Zoology, Dr. Chowdhury is an internationally recognised researcher whose work focuses on wetland ecology, aquatic ecosystems, plastic pollution and the conservation of threatened species in Bangladesh. She received her PhD from the University of Cambridge and was recognised with an OWSD–Elsevier Foundation Award in 2022 for her contributions as an early-career woman scientist.

Her latest honour reflects the influence and reach of her research, as well as her continued commitment to advancing conservation science. We are proud to celebrate this achievement and congratulate Dr. Chowdhury on this well-deserved recognition.
