An award ceremony at the AAAS Annual Meeting celebrated the accomplishments of early-career women scientists in the developing world, but a symposium the next day highlighted the challenges they are likely to face in advancing to leadership positions.

The prize is awarded by the Elsevier Foundation, the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS).
