Prof. Marian Asantewah Nkansah elected as a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science

Congratulations to Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, an alumna of the OWSD–Elsevier Foundation Awards, on her election as a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS).

A letter from WAAS Secretary General Janani Ramanathan confirmed the news, welcoming Professor Nkansah into a global network of more than 700 Fellows from over 90 countries. Founded in 1960, WAAS recognises distinguished contributions to science, the arts, humanities and public service, and its Fellows span scientists, scholars, artists, policymakers and global leaders working across disciplines on the world’s major challenges.

Professor Nkansah is Director of Student Affairs and Professor of Environmental Chemistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. Her research on environmental pollution, toxic substances and food safety has advanced scientific understanding of contaminants in food, water and the environment, and informed public health and environmental policy. She received an OWSD–Elsevier Foundation Award for Women Scientists in Africa, and her other honours include the Fayzah M. Al-Kharafi Prize, a Fellowship of the International Science Council and a Fellowship of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

We are proud to celebrate Professor Nkansah’s continued contribution to science, and to see this latest honour join a distinguished record of recognition.
