10 years of the Elsevier Foundation Chemistry for Climate Challenge

In 2026, at the Elsevier Foundation we mark ten years of the Chemistry for Climate Action Challenge, delivered in partnership with Elsevier’s Chemistry portfolio. Over the past decade, the Challenge has supported chemistry-based responses to climate mitigation and adaptation, spanning water treatment, sustainable materials, waste reduction and climate resilience.

A decade of climate action, built together

Over time, this commitment has grown beyond funding to include deeper collaboration and knowledge exchange.

To mark the 10-year milestone, we are pleased to have welcomed 10 alumni to participate in this year’s activities, including our first-ever winner from Malaysia – alongside alumni from Nigeria, Jordan, India, Nepal, Peru, Vietnam, Somalia and South Africa.

At the 10th Elsevier Green & Sustainable Chemistry Conference in May, we have hosted a dedicated workshop and roundtable to reflect on the evolution of their projects, and explore future directions for green chemistry at the nexus of climate change.

And for the first time, alumni have presented their work through Conference posters, creating creating further opportunities for visibility and collaboration.

Alumni in our community have also gone on to contribute as editorial board members in Elsevier journals, and as reviewers, jury members and program advisors.

We are proud of their achievements, and we look forward to keep collaborating to advance inclusive research for all.
